Batam, Indonesia was our final stop on this trip. It is here that Infinite Frameworks Studios is based – the company servicing the animation of my show, Munki and Trunk.
The route from Singapore is via a Batam Fast ferry from Tanah Merah. We arrived from Seoul late in the afternoon and made our way to the ferry. The clouds gathered and rain began to fall as it so often does in Singapore.
With the hot tropical rain falling from above, and mists rising off the warm ocean, approaching Batam felt like a scene from The Lost World or Indiana Jones. It helped that our ferry was named Golden Raider. Night fell as we navigated into the river estuary and docked at the Nongsapura Ferry Terminal.

The next morning we woke up to more rain. Much more rain. But as the day progressed, it cleared and we started exploring the resort.
After a few weeks on the road, all three of us came down with the flu. We opted for a quiet weekend at the hotel. Our journey home started with a ferry back to Singapore and then onwards to Cape Town via Johannesburg.
Travel is one of the great joys of my job. Amy and I always said that our children would need fit in with our lifestyle – not the other way around. And, though a two week trip to Asia with a 3-month-old wasn't in our original plan, we look back thankful that we did it. Ben now travels like a pro and Mom and Dad get to indulge their wanderlust...
